- Posted By: Hey "Rights": Nobody thinks torture is ok. Especially not against "foreigners." Then again, water boarding is not torture, and terrorists are not just "foreigners" here on a Visa or a tourist visit. Even if it was, if it is practiced on murderers who have vowed to kill millions if possible, then it is ok. Anyone with common sense should understand that. Water boarding broke Khalid Sheik Mohammed in short order and he spilled his guts, revealing a lot of great intelligence that was used to save innocent children. Now that is success; deny that, you are a fool. I seem to remember terrorists sawing off the heads of captives with butcher knives, then showing it on TV. What did they do to Daniel Pearl? When did we do that? Also, what war did you serve in and where were you a POW? Bottom line is, the way some of you think gets people killed. All your theories are great until you are on the plane, or your kids, or in the building that is collapsing, or in the crowd where the bomb just went off. Foolishness

- Posted By: Gandalf: "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hope of its children. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity, hanging from a cross of Iron." Dwight D. Eisenhower.

- Posted By: Rights: I see where many think that torture is ok for so called terroist well as a former POW I am here to say you are ignorant and do not have a clue. The basic human rights that we practice as Americans in treating anyone whether it be a citizen of the US or a foreigner is what seperates us form the Hitlers of the world.I was treated harshly but it could have been a whole lot worse and you do not realize that if we stoop to the level of some countries then we are no longer the greatest country on earth and when that happens believe me you will not want to see the outcome. Some of these people will and can make waterboarding seem as if it is a walk in the park they hold back on extreme measures on Americans fearing the reprecussions but if they think we believe that torture is ok they will pull out all the stops and who among you think we would start a war over your mother or grandmother being kidnapped in some foriegn country and being tortured in ways you could never imagine
- Posted By: food for thought: I can't even get my name right.LOL. Hey Jesus is more man than I am, he picked up his cross and carried it. Did I justify torture? I think in fact I said it was wrong. Do you all actually read a complete post? Hey I will actually up the ante, the worst thing we do is not let our own family and neighbors know about Jesus, and I am guilty of it too. The drill thing, I don't recall that one; not right either. You ask me if I am for real? You would think that innocent lives lost in the towers and the pentagon and on the planes are lesser than torture of POW"S? It's not sensible any way we look at it. If it's us or them it's happening to. Please, just watch the eastern sky, and when that moment happens we will not have to go through any of this evil anymore. Hey, if you really want a story google Transformation of America, that will get your blood pressure soaring.
- Posted By: Keith...well, Just Wondering, it is because...: The Republicans spend most of their time on the D side of the aisle; witness McCain, Graham, Snowe, Collins, etc...where is the democrat who reciprocates? Obama? What a blabbermouth. He talked more yesterday than all the Republicans combined; filibustering to cover up his woeful ignorance and his pathetic plan. Condescending, arrogant, rude, with a god complex, that's Obama yesterday. Go back to 2005, get the quotes from Hillary, Harry, Barry, Robert C Byrd, Chuck, the whole lot; it was pure horror when the Nuclear Option was debated then; why not now? Once again, nobody was tortured. Scaring somebody with a drill is not torture; we are a nation of softies who invite terrorist mayhem with foolishness like this; and "Thanks" there is not one government program you can point to that has lowered costs, stayed within its budget, and done what it was supposed to do. None. I am all for reducing health care costs; one thing is for sure, Obama is not. Yesterday proved it beyond any doubt.
- Posted By: to thanks a lot....: if you think obamas marxist takeover of one more private buisness will solve your problem you are mistaken.if you say you cant afford it now,its voluntary, you will be mandated to have it whether you think you can afford it or not.nothing the gov.does works.every social program is bankrupt, medicare, medicade, social security, ssi, welfare, foodstamps hud education etc.remember these wars were susposed to be self sustaining.sorry for your problems but one more government debakle wont help you it will only hurt you.what about the diabetes society, they are always begging and recieving hundreds of millions in dollars.time for them to meet their obligation or people should quit giving.
- Posted By: To: Fool for Thought: Are you for real? The worst thing we did includes showing another human being a drill, blindfolding him, and then turning the drill on, all the while giving him the impression that we had done it to others because they were faking him out by pretending it was being done to another human being in the room next to him. You call that nothing? All in the name of Jesus - Lord how his name is used in this day and age - to justify torture - shame, shame, shame
- Posted By: justwondering: Why is it that reconciliation is bad when the democrats use it?The republicans have used it over twice as often as them, and have actually praised the the use of it,one republican senator actually stating he hoped to see it used every year.I'm sure he thought they would be the majority in those years(wishful thinking on his part)but he still stated it.As for the "nuclear option"I think that is what they called the filibustering of Judaical nominations a few years back. The republican party has gone seriously far,far to the right,My grandfather was a straight ticket republican all his life, but never did I hear him speak as those who call themselves republican now.I find the majority of the people I know and have just had a casual conversation with tend to be centrists, and willing to listen and discuss ideas without becoming hated enemies of each other. Why is it our political leaders who we elected to represent us can't seem to do that?Who do they represent thier party or our country?

- Posted By: : Kieth, you and the others here who wish to make warriors of the terrorists, instead of treating them like the criminals they are,are just playing into thier hands. And I don't know where, wait a minute,I do know where you are getting your info.personally if I knew the facts to be the opposite of what a person was saying as truth,I don't think I would believe them anymore. The facts are the criminals who have been arrested(under the Bush years also)have cooperated and given us information which the authorities have put to good use.Why some people, including the past vice-president, lie to promote actions we as a people, who hold forth justice and freedom as our beacon, have said to be deplorable and wrong really eludes me.And have you noticed the ones who rant and rave the most the most extreme measures, are those who haven't served, and did whatever they could not to serve in the military? How can you ignore the facts, and blindly follow these people even when you are shown they are wrong, how?
- Posted By: Sophie: Earlier in the month I wrote about having a sudden excelleration problem with an '84 Mustang and the problem was diagnosed as a bad computer chip. Now we are hearing accounts that Toyota issues are quite possibly related to "shorts" or "surges" creating electrical problems related to chips. Since cars these days have performance chips, I have no doubt that this is not a problem exclusive to Toyota. If my Ford had it back in 1984....and you know those were caveman computer days... I hate this for the family of those who have lost lives, been maimed physically, mentally & financially. I hate this for Toyota, too. It just goes to show that even the best can fail, but it is in how the problems are rectified that will make them better. We'll see..
- Posted By: Thanks a lot: First of all I would like to thank the reps/people who are opposing health care reform. Even though my husband and I work 3 and a half jobs between us and cannot get access to health care you are right IT'S NOT YOUR PROBLEM. I am sure that one day soon my husbands diabetes will not cost us THOUSANDS of dollars in expenses a year and I'm sure one day soon that because of the good hearts of the pharmaceutical companies they will allow both my husband and my son to receive their absolutely required daily medicines at a reasonable rate. I would much rather my country go into absolute debt in two wars with out reasonable end in sight than to worry about the health and care of it's own millions and millions of people. Perhaps Big Earl(aka Keith/Don Blankenship)if he can get off the internet for a few minutes and join the real world would be willing to let me clean up the coal dust around his house. I am free between the hours of 11pm & 5am. Sleep is over rated anyways.

- Posted By: Walt: Keith, I have told you this 3 times already, and I'm telling you again: THE CONSTITUTION GUARANTEES THE SAME RIGHT OF DUE PROCESS TO FOREIGN NATIONALS THAT IT DOES TO US CITIZENS. The US Supreme Court affirmed this right over 100 years ago. And everyone taken into custody in the US is entitled to legal counsel, even if they cannot afford it, as affirmed by the Supreme Court in the mid-60's. It's not a "fool idea," it's the law. And in case you missed it, FDR, Truman, Patton, et. al. fought long and hard to protect these principles.

- Posted By: Keith...news flash! news flash! extra, extra! Rush was wrong!!: He advised the Republicans to skip Obama's dog and pony show on "healthcare" today but admitted on the air that it was a good thing after all. So there you go guys, I agree, Rush missed it on this one-it was a good idea to go. I confess, I was waiting on the usual RINO suspects to show up, but it seems this group had their act together. Did you guys know there are 17 Republican M.D.s in the House, and only 2 democrat doctors? Somebody forgot to plug up Dr. Chicago's teleprompter, he flounders W/O it. So, what do we get? In spite of dozens of quotes by Hillary, Harry, Barry, Chuck, Byrd, and Co., in 2005 about how it would be the ruination of the country to get something passed with 51 votes; despite Joe Biden praying to God that the democrat party would never stoop so low; despite denying that ANYBODY is talking about the Nuclear Option, guess what's coming? "Nuke 'em!" by hook or crook, from a lying, scheming, conniving, band of radical, anti-American liberal Marxist radicals.
- Posted By: foor for thought: Jeannie, please seek Jesus. This country can't lead when our President bows to the leaders of foreign countries. You ever see them coming here praying to Jehovah God with our president? Won't happen either. I say that because this is a nation based on Godly principles. Torture is not right, plain and simple, but you don't need an applause for making that comment either. God almighty says not to do it. Starts with the fundamentals, Love one another, Forgive, and pray. Keith it's been a while, but I bet this opens up another one. The worst thing we did to those prisoners, is not witness to them the Savior, their Messiah.
- Posted By: Some suggestions for Toyota: First off, slow down. There is no reason in the world to sell so many vehicles, open so many factories, and provide so many jobs. What you need to do to survive in present day America is, immediately lay off 50% of your US workforce; idle 40% of your plants; and cancel at least 6 of your models. Lastly, quit exploiting labor with those 60 and 70 thousand dollar per year jobs and welcome in true progress with the UAW. There should be equality among all car companies, no one should have any advantage over the other, even if you do build better vehicles. This will level the playing field and move Toyota closer to the level of GM and Chrysler. You are doing some things right, especially apologizing for growth, groveling, etc...just keep it up, especially when you are called to testify in front of the managers...oops I meant Congress...the owners of your biggest competitors, GM and Chrysler. Of course you will get a fair deal why on earth would they want to put Toyota out of business?
- Posted By: Bluebird: I would think there is a difference in "basic human rights" and the rights of a terrorist in any country on earth. When there is absolute proof in front of you that someone is about to commit mass murder (or already has), that person has given up their "basic human rights". Water torture is much different than the painful torment that other countries have practiced in the past. While frightening, it causes no severe bodily harm and may be effective in saving the lives of many citizens. However, there should be absolute proof a terrorist act has happened or is about to. But inflicting physical pain as torture, I feel makes us no better than our enemies. No, they should not be treated as ordinary citizens. To fight terrorism, it has to have above the ordinary consequences or we become easy targets. The safety of a country's citizens should be the most important issue. This is just my opinion, of course.
- Posted By: miner49er: Keith, how little you know about the art and science of interrogation.
The Abu Ghraib and Gitmo "interrogators" were untrained contractors who haven't been very successful. REAL FBI interrogators are appalled by the contractor's abuse which actually PREVENTED the gathering of useful inelligence.

From your love for torture in secret prisons it sounds as if you'd feel right at home in Iran, Cuba or N. Korea.
- Posted By: To Tillikum (re Big Earl): Tillikum, I appreciate what you've written regarding Big Earl, but "Big Earl" is not a real person...He's what is known in Internet lingo as a "troll." He never responds to any comments, just comes here to ramble his nonsense. The real person behind Big Earl (Keith) is laughing at us as he gets one over on the people who frequent The Yell. In case you haven't noticed, The Yell is othewise known as "Keith's column." Most people have better ways to spend their time, including myself, but just had to give an update.
- Posted By: Jeannie: Suppose we travel outside the U.S., then we should not have any "rights" either? Not even the rights countries give their own citizens? Perhaps we'd all better stay home then if we can't even count basic human rights. Due process is the foundation of the greatness of our country and what makes us the greatest country in the world and it is also why we are looked up to by the rest of the world (probably more so in the past - ya know, before we tortured and imprisoned people at Guantanamo without any trial). Standing by one's values even when others practice disdain for you is an attribute supposedly treasured in the U.S. How little this practice gets you in real life is disturbing. Jose Padilla is a U.S. citizen who the Bush administration tried to treat as an enemy combatant on the grounds they felt he was a terrorist - check it out, it's true. An American citizen.. The U.S. needs to be the leader it professes to be - the world still looks to us to lead.
- Posted By: Thanks Roane County: I have often admired FDR the war president. All through the 1930s his hands were so firmly tied by isolationists in the Congress he could little to stop Germany or Japan; the Depression certainly didn't help either. The Lend Lease deal with Britain, giving them the destroyers, probably saved England. When war broke out, he went at it with a ferocity all generations should admire. Complete, total annihilation of the enemy = Victory. Even though Germany and Italy did not attack us on Dec. 7th, he led a declaration of war on them, and rightly so, they were allied with Imperial Japan. Domestically, for a time he took some very draconian steps, like the internment of American citizens of Japanese descent, and showed moral resolve by the execution of captured Nazi spies who entered the country from U Boats for the purpose of domestic terrorism. And then Harry Truman; hats off to Harry for finishing the job. Q: What happened to these type democrats? Take your party back, please!!!
- Posted By: RoaneCo.: Due to the fact that I am not a law professor maybe it would be best to keep "MY" opinion to myself...but my Hillbilly logic says there is a big difference between someone wanting to wash clothes 124 years ago and someone wanting to blow up an airplane today.
- Posted By: Sure thing Walt, but like I said...: Whose relatives are on the plane that blows up over your fool idea? Yours or mine? I certainly hope neither, but that is the scary part; people that think the way you do, i.e., soft on terror, reading them their "rights" giving them taxpayer funded ACLU lawyers, put a neon sign on the back of the USA that says "kill us," and unfortunately, you vote, and empower politicians who enable the mayhem. Can you imagine, and I hope that is all of us ever have to do, what it would be like on an airplane, after the blast goes off, you are almost home for Christmas, it is crashing down, and the thought occurs, "Well, at least the terrorists liked us, because we were stupid enough to grant them legal rights guaranteed only to US citizens by their constitution, but that is not going to help me much right now." FDR would laugh in your face Walt. So would Truman, Lincoln, Patton, MacArthur, and a host of other great war fighters this country once knew. Squarepeg, as far as I know Walt is a US citizen?
- Posted By: squarepeg: If you wish to learn about "firmness" and "moral resolve", try making damn sure the person who disagrees with you has the same rights you enjoy. The Constitution of these United States was not written in a day nor without much heated discussion over these two (and many other) points.
A gentle reminder: it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
- Posted By: Tillikum: Coal Miner People of WV: Big Earl, your leader has misspoke like usual. I never lived with Micheal Jackson and I was not the whale in Free Willy. That was my friend Keiko and he passed away in 2003. You Big Earl should be boohooing for yourself because you are an endangered species in two ways. First, you are human and are destroying your environment. Second, you are a coal miner and because of your destructive occupation, environmentalists are going to destroy your job. If you had half a brain, you could earn a living a different way but after reading your posts, I doubt you have the ability to do anything else but to destroy me, the enviroment and eventually yourself. Good luck buddy! You'll need it! GOD save the WHALES and get a new job miners.
- Posted By: Walt: Keith, let me make this perfectly clear to you: everyone in the US is protected by the Constitution. It's not a proposal, it's not an idea, IT IS BLACK LETTER LAW! The US Supreme Court ruled on this in 1886, in Yick Wo v. Hopkins. You and your hero Rush Limbaugh may say different, but neither of you know what you're talking about.
- Posted By: RoaneCo: This may be a first but...I have to agree with Keith on this subject. In my opinion either you are a legal citizen of the US or your an illegal alien. If you are an illegal alien you should not have any rights.
- Posted By: Keith: What you propose is foolishness; just because you wander into the country does not make you a citizen and does not give you rights under a constitution for American citizens. Your attitude is testimony to a softness and lack of moral resolve to deal with terrorists. EX: The underwear bomber tries to kill Americans. AG Holder gets involved, and orders him to be given his Miranda "rights." The first thing that should have happened in this case was, take him to a secret location, hook up a water hose, and see what you can get out of him, i.e., who sent you, how many of you are there, what are your other targets, when are your friends planning on coming back, etc...instead, Obama, who calls terrorists "folks," that's right, the President refers to these murderers as "folks" and his AG read him his rights, an ACLU lawyer is provided, and when he is asked about further plans to murder, he flips the bird to his interrogators. Q: Whose relatives are on the plane next time, yours or mine?
- Posted By: Walt: Keith, the right to due process of law applies to everyone who sets foot in the United States. It's not me that says that, it's not the Liberal Left that says that, it's the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Read it, you might learn something.
- Posted By: Keith...congratulations are in order: To the Wall Street Pig Brokers who netted 20.3 Billion dollars in bonuses in 2009. - Posted By: Blah blah blah....: What did Scott Brown do that was so bad? Before you make an A** of yourself, perhaps you should ask if I support the bill he voted for, instead of assuming I don't? The bill did contain tax cuts did it not? Weak, but still tax cuts, a definite step in the right direction? Scott Brown campaigned to be the 41st vote against Obamacare, to take away the super majority. He has held firm on that, so far, and I hope he continues. Sigh...more mindless prattle, ex: "People like you...people like you...etc..." Lastly, you may be a "sad soul," but please, speak for yourself.
- Posted By: Keith, I agree: "My heart, my choice": So says the Prime Minister of Newfoundland, who came to the US for medical care even though he is from Canada...will wonders never cease? I saw where former Clinton adviser Dick Morris has listed Nick Rahall and Alan Mollohan on his website as swing votes on the latest incarnation of Obamacare. Isn't is amazing what quality opposition in an election will do to help Nick and Alan see that they represent WV and not Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama? Call as soon as possible and let them know you agree with a clear majority of Americans in opposing this. Did anyone hear all the democrats from back in 2005 screaming about using 51 votes, the so called "Nuclear Option" to pass bills in the Senate? Biden, Clinton, Schumer, Reid, Feinstein, all rose to call it underhanded, cheating, violations of Senate protocol, outrageous, why even Mr. Conscience himself, Robert Byrd, spoke against it. Funny how that works-watch them now, by hook or crook, trying to pass "healthcare," sneaking, cheating, lying.
- Posted By: Bluebird: No, Mr. Sunshine, politeness is not too much to ask and should always be used. My apologies and thank you.
- Posted By: Blah: Hey Keith what do you think about Scott Brown now? You came on here after the election going on how it was a step in the right direction. I beleive I pointed out to you that he shared alot of the same views as liberals. I guess you just had to hear it from Rush or Fox to believe it. He has a mind of his own, how dare him voting for a Democrat bill. People like you are what is wrong with this country people like you would rather vote for somebody just because they are Republican or Democrat rather than voting for who YOU think will do the better job. That is the reason these so called represenatives stay in office for years and years. My advice people do not listen to what a party says or a comentator or a sad soul like Keith or me,listen to the candidate and research his actions then decide.
- Posted By: To Keith: So what part of the new proposals dont you like,is it the part to rein in the insurance companies from raising rates up to 39% when the are reporting billions in profits,or is it the part where they can not deny you coverage because of a pre-existing conditions. The new proposals are from the debates and includes ideas from both parties and bridges the gap between the bills that were passed in the house and the senate.Maybe you hold shares in big insurance companies and cant stand to see your profits drop but most of us dont and we are tired of the abuse, fraud and waste.I have a feeling that just like the jobs bill there will be backers from the right and there will be a health care overhaul whether you or Rush like it or not
- Posted By: Mr. Sunshine: I suppose politeness is a lot to ask.
- Posted By: Keith...the only danger in that is...: You get the exact opposite of what you want. Perot made Clinton possible; Nader made W possible. Down with 3rd parties-take back the 2 we have from radical, America hating, socialist, communist, progressives and get back to the war fighting of FDR and Truman, the tax cutting of Kennedy and Clinton, and the big thinking world changing results of Reagan. Walt, no they are not American citizens and have no rights. But, it is good you write this; folks, behold the Left: Constitutional rights for madmen who fly planes into buildings and murder thousands of Americans whose crime is going to work. Geneva Conventions for the same. Priceless. Remember in November; Obama, Nancy, and Harry are just like Walt; but, this is what we are currently doing. What do we get for it? A Muslim fanatic at Fort Hood goes on a killing spree; a lunatic with his underpants stuffed with explosives tries to murder thousands in the air over Detroit on Christmas, AND our AG Holder says, "Read them their RIGHTS?!!!"
- Posted By: Walt: Keith, let me tell you this about 9/11 terrorists and their lawyers. If the terrorists are going to be tried in a civilian court i.e. as individuals acting of their own free will, then they are protected by the US Constitution (like any other foreign national), and must be afforded the same rights and protections as anyone else, which includes the right to legal counsel. If however, the terrorists are going to tried in a military court i.e. as enemy combatants, then they are protected by the Geneva Convention, and as such also must be afforded the right to legal counsel. As an American, I for one cannot think of a more patriotic act than to stand up for the rights of the accused, and to make sure that EVERY person brought to trial in this country is treated FAIRLY.
- Posted By: Rita: Ashley, you nailed it. Our country needs the intelligence of a Democrat and the nads of a Republican. We are ready for an Independent! I am sick of both parties and plan to change to Independent as soon as I can.
- Posted By: RoaneCo.: I agree with you Craveontruth, it all goes back to money. People can bend statistics, use inaccurate polls and outright lie to place blame, but it still goes back to money. I'm sure "United we stand, divided we fall" is a saying that most all have heard. And considering our current situation I think it rings very true. Both parties have lost sight of their duties and the last thing this country needs is a few pompous people in the media acting as a wedge dividing this country even more. Did I sugarcoat that enough for you Keith?

- Posted By: Keith: Well, here we go again-Mr. C SPAN Transparency, Barack Obama trying to ram his "health care" bill through by hook or crook. I would almost wish he would succeed-with such a huge amount of the public, by any/every poll, opposed to it, it would just about guarantee a house cleaning in November. But, I wouldn't wish that abomination even on liberals. Same rationing boards, same fines, same jail time, a Trillion dollars spent, huge tax increases, still millions uncovered, great "health care." Hey did anyone hear that Obama has 9 lawyers working in his justice dept. that have represented Al Qaeda terrorists? Is this borderline treason, or what? I saw where the NAALCP is giving an award to Van Jones, the radical, 911 truther/communist Karl Marx. Great move, NAALCP. What in the world has happened to consumer confidence? I think the President needs to go on TV more. His message is just not getting out, otherwise people would be dancing in the streets singing Happy Days are Here Again.

- Posted By: Mr. DJC: As I look back now, I have to say it has been extremely difficult to understand why circumstances have been handled in such an irresponsible way. Though I understand it’s not exactly the fault of one, the idle have stood by while those around us once again have gotten their way. Why does one think that situations that are brought on by certain actions of others will suddenly change the mindset of all? I agree on one hand that the position with regard to conditions and circumstances can influence the person in question regardless of the fact. The real issue is here is understanding what one assumes to be the correct response, that ultimately, comes from the knowledge gained from the process of coming to know the truth behind the real issue. Understanding the position one holds is vital in knowing what one truly believes is the logical solution. So I leave you with this important question…..Why?

When we self destruct the countries that are already within will divide then us Americans will see how few we really are.So throw all your facts out, demand them, say show me as everyone does to show intelligence or maybe lack thereof and we will lose.

- Posted By: Everyone, educate yourself in economics, it is not that difficult: Buy and read Dr. Thomas Sowell's book Basic Economics. Competition always lowers price, in healthcare, cars, pencils, anything. The producer/seller simply cannot set a price arbitrarily, the market won't allow it. This is the fallacy of the "corporate greed" argument. Stop lawsuit abuse; doctors DO NOT pay their insurance costs, they PASS IT TO US!! IF the Govt. successfully takes over the HC system, people will react; medical practitioners will leave the field, they said so to the tune of 40% in a poll; employers will do the rational thing and drop coverages, pay the pittance of a fine for doing so, and we will have nowhere to go but to the Govt. So what happens in economics when there is a surge in demand with a corresponding scarcity of supply? Rationing of scarce goods, aka "death panels." That is why in every country with the socialist system, there is a board appointed to decide who gets what treatments, plans, costs, etc..Obamacare is no different.

They are the types that don't believe in allowing others to express an opinion, censor things, shut down their opposition, oh wait, that describes your post! RC, perhaps if you would lighten up on the rudeness, nastiness, vulgarity, meanness, that you regularly exhibit, you would get farther with your "ideas." You're obsessed with Rush. Folks appreciate facts, logic, rationality, etc...but it is clear from the Yell, when Liberals lose an argument, they name call, impugn others' motives, "you are this, you are that," etc...now I don't refer to philosophies, i.e., someone can come on here and say yes, I believe in the wasteful spending of trillions of dollars, higher taxes, inflation, interest rates, weak military, etc...and properly be called a liberal.

- Posted By: Bluebird: I am trying to stay out of these discussions, but I have to agree with Roane Co. But Jim gave a good reply as well. To speak truthfully, I don't know the answer to where we would have been without the stimulus money. But I would like to add that I don't ever feel it is a good idea to spend money you don't have. I think that is true as individuals and also of the government. Sooner or later someone has to "pay up" or go under. Can we ever climb out of this debt that is reaching sky high? I wonder.
- Posted By: Jeannie: Scott Brown did not win because he was against health care reform. Brown campaigned that he would be against Obama's plan because Massachusetts already had health care reform and Mass. should not be penalized for having solved its problem by having to share its solutions with the rest of the country, which would cost the people of Massachusetts the health care reform that Mass. currently enjoys - passed by a Republican, Mitt Romney, with mandates. That Romney - who knew he was a socialist?
- Posted By: Jeannie: People reject what the health care bill has become. People do not reject the Public Option. You cannot mandate that we all buy health insurance and not provide for a method to cut costs. If you don't have public option, our tax dollars will be subsidizing worthless (but expensive) health insurance policies with extremely high deductibles, making sure we still can't go to the doctor when needed. I know what private insurance costs a family. My health insurance purchased through our employer costs myself and my husband $783 a month for $5000 deductible policy. Does the public really think that employers are going to continue to pay the high cost of health insurance policies when good insurance costs an employer anywhere from $1500 to $2000 a month right now per family. What is going to bring the price down? It's not buying policies across state lines. That idea will only erase what protections individual states have managed to institute in this era of "regulation is bad" ideology.
- Posted By: Keith: Bob could you be more specific. Do you advocate that we not trade with other countries? That we cannot sell to them? What about the idea of Comparative Advantage in relation to economics? How would that fit in? Would what you describe be efficient? Would we pay more, or less for goods and services? What historical examples can you point to where that method worked? I read once where we had a positive trade balance all the way through the Great Depression, but, one of the huge mistakes Hoover made was the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which not only limited what we could buy, it closed markets to our goods abroad, resulting in massive unemployment here as factories shut down, as other nations retaliated for the tariff. Do we buy inferior, more expensive products just because they may have an American label? Don't get me wrong, I am with you in spirit but I wonder what consequences it would have and if it could ever really work that way.
- Posted By: Jim cont: unemployment numbers not only in WVa and Ohio but nationwide. We are the #1 producer of asphalt in the country and they are looking to hire several hundred plus put everyone back to work that have been laid off do to the seasonal shut downs. As for the 3rd part of your question I know everyone have seen homeless people and if not for the stimulus the people you see along the street could have been many of your neighbors or relatives,I have 3 adult children and 3 adult step children and have been able to help them thru but had it not been for the unemployment extensions and their willingness to take any work they could do 3 of them and their spouses would have lost their homes.Luckly my son and step son have been called back to work and my son inlaw just got a new job last week.I have voted for both parties and have seen the good and bad in both I think Obama really means well and is trying. And I am watching the actions of all politicans and I will vote accordingly as will my children
- Posted By: To Phoenix: We would have nearly $900 billion dollars less debt; Yesterday the President announced spending had to be cut; what is a stimulus, except spending? The Obama Administration announced last year that the maximum value from this stimulus would be felt by the Fall of 2009. VP Biden noted that if the Stimulus was passed, unemployment would not exceed 8%. Senator Evan Bayh of IN said the other day that if he could create ONE job in the private sector, he would have accomplished more than Congress in the past 6 months. Can anyone tell me how you measure a "saved" job? What is the criteria? The White House announced a few weeks ago that they anticipated unemployment to be at 9.8% by the end of this year, exactly where it is now. Are they anticipating success? The clear path to make an economy boom is to cut taxes and reduce spending dramatically. This has been proven by JFK, Reagan, and Bill Clinton. The Keynesian, spend to stimulate does not work, and I challenge anyone to give an example.
- Posted By: Craveontruth: Phoenix, the only economy we have right now has been propped up by our government.Take away the government spending and we would have imploaded. Not a recession but a depression, which is actually what is needed to correct this mess.So unless people have been getting out of debt and stockpiling food and supplies, they should not be critical. Both republicans and democrats have tried to stave off this correction for no one wants to be in office during a depression,it is political suicide.Bob,there is a reason why we can not just buy American. We have made a deal with three countries.China,Japan and the oil producing nations of the middle east. They are 1,2 and 3 in who buys our T Bills and therefore supports our deficit economy.Stop buying their goods and they stop buying our debt and the U.S. is done. There is a reason why we import 70% of our oil,why everything at walmart is made in China and why Honda and Toyota's are all over our roads.Hard to believe but not hard to understand.
- Posted By: Keith...well, because...: Well Bob, we don't all agree. For instance, why don't liberals drop the so called "health care" bill since a clear majority of the country rejects it? Over 60% reject it, and the same number say start all over. What margin did Obama win by? 53-47? Was that a mandate? The answer is, the majority wins; they vote for persons who espouse certain ideas, sometimes they are true to the ideas, most times not. Compromise is fine, but who does the compromising? I would be happy to see a health care bill passed that would truly address costs, lawsuit abuse, portability, preexisting coverages, interstate competition; but I know liberals simply cannot abide that. Why don't they compromise and quit trying to shove something a small minority wants on the vast majority of folks? Dunno. One thing is for certain, Scott Brown ran in MA as the 41st vote against Obamacare, and won handily the seat formerly occupied by the number one pusher of a Big Government takeover of the health care system.
- Posted By: Jim: Ok Pheonix here's my take 1 unemployment rates would probably as a whole would be down if not for the stimulus, you have to figure the rates have stayed up because of the extensions the stimulus has funded, but with the lower rates if the people would have been out of benefits after 26 weeks you would have had a depression and that leads to the next 2 parts of your question bankrupties would have been double to triple or more of what they already have been. Many parts of the stimulus is not perfect but the basic concept was the right thing to do and things are getting better we have to realize that most of the infrustructure money has not been used and I know people quote it was to be shovel ready but the delays made it impossible you can't do road work in the winter months asphault does not work in cold weather. The company I work for has done a lot of stimulus work and has so much more to do that I know things will get better. The highway work we have lined up will make an impact in the
- Posted By: RoaneCo.: Well Phoenix, in my opinion, the only thing so far that has keep this country from falling deeper into economic crisis has been the unemployment extensions. I don't feel that anything else has really had that much of an impact. As I have stated may times in the past, if the middle class working man/woman doesn't have money, be it from a pay check or an unemployment check, the economy will only worsen. Giving bailouts to big business has proven to be a joke. For example, GM stated awhile back, when they were making a bailout payment to our government that they could have paid more back but they used some of the money to sure up their overseas factories. And don't even get me started on bailout funds given to a company that still gives their CEO a multi-millon dollar bonus. Again Phoenix, this is only my personal opinion but until we as a country find a way to bring an end to corporate greed I do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.
- Posted By: RoaneCo.: That is a great idea bob, but how are we to do that when most of the greedy companies in America left years ago in search of cheap labor and relaxed regulations in order to increase their profits. Their greed is now coming back to bite them, sad part of it is, like always, the working class are the ones that continue to suffer.
- Posted By: Phoenix: I have a question that I want serious answers to please don't go off on a rant and I want answers from both "sides" please. If the 2009 stimulus had not passed where would we be as a country today? I know it will be clearly a matter of opinion but be as realistic as you can be. I would like your thoughts on unemployment rates, bankrupties, social impacts etc.

Take care of the beam in your own eye. Jam, what opinions do you refer to? If you want to play that game, please pronounce "corpsman." Way to go Graydon; you tell those "faceists" nobody gets an opinion but you. LOL, you're a real stand up guy. No, Walt, the statistics are correct. Those folks were as good as unemployed; when the trees were planted, the trash picked up, the building built; what job did they have? FDR's handouts. Every $$ taken by the Govt. for handouts is taken out of the private sector, taken away from entrepreneurs, businesses, investors, etc...even if I grant your premise, that the jobless figures were lower, you are left in the unenviable position of defending 10%-15% unemployment, FOR 8 YEARS! How many of you out there would tolerate that today? The jobless rate under Bush was often 25%? In 1940, >20%? Why did the rest of the world emerge from depression, but we did not, until 1941? (run up to WW2)Why did we have the NRA, WPA, CCC, etc...and 20% unemployment the entire decade? Clearly, FDR hindered, not helped, recovery. The record is the record. Why, when some of his Programs were declared unconstitutional, did FDR attempt to increase the size of the Supreme Court, the infamous court stacking scandal? For information, read "The Forgotten Man" and "FDR: New Deal or Raw Deal," also, check out Dr. Thomas Sowell's "Basic Economics" for answers. Time will tell-the projections for this year are that unemployment will be at 9.8% by years end. Since it is presently at 9.8%, why no forecast for improvement? I CHALLENGE ANY LIBERAL ON HERE: NAME ONE THING OBAMA IS DOING, RIGHT NOW, TO HELP. ONE THING.

- Posted By: To Ashley and Keith: Maybe you should do a little research, people claiming the stimulus didn't work need to realize that most of the stimulus money has not even been spent yet and what has been spent has helped us from being worse off ask the people who recieved extra unemployment benefits where they would be without the extensions they got that came from stimulus money,Keith says it has failed but yet just today out of the 641 million that Ohio got for highway infrastructure only 12% has been spent that leaves 88% and out of that 12% it created 618 jobs so with these numbers we can see another 4500 jobs by the time the other 88% is used if you call this a failure then tell me how you would have put that many people to work, matter of fact figuring the new way the republicans want it figured the stimulus created 24,694 jobs in Ohio in the fourth quarter of 09 alone,as for other help ask the poor and disabled where they would be without the preservation of medicaid funding with the stimulus money

How can you be soooooo sure that this stimulus helped, barely after a year???? You might want to contact the nations top universities, they are in dire need of your certainty.....

How is that for cutting spending?” “To say that all we have to do is take care of waste, fraud and abuse, and foreign aid is a like a sparrow’s belch in the midst of typhoon,” he said. “That is nothing, less than 1 percent of the budget" - Alan Simpson - Chairman of Republican Budget Commission.

Don't pay attention to that other stuff." Republicans want to you pay attention to everything outside of the immediate surroundings so they can say, "Look at all the bad stuff the liberals did!" Both are right, but not as much as they think they are. And something to think about: As long as those who vote are so entrenched by party lines and stuff that doesn't matter, it distracts us from fixing what is really wrong with America and allows the politicians to continue playing us as pawns. What a shame those pesky free citizens stood in the way of the democrates.

- Posted By: Keith...how much "fixing" can we stand?: Gandalf, I am disappointed in you, writing such mindless tripe. Can you refute Heritage? They are scholars and well documented. I have never been to WorldNetDaily. Slanted? During the 2008 campaign, Fox had a 50-50 split between positive/negative stories on both candidates; MSNBC had a 80-20 negative to positive against McCain. Facts, is using Google bad, to educate oneself, on an issue? Are unemployment and the hoax of man made global warming now trivial? Really? Again, my loyalty is conservative; I say, throw out every RINO. Bush did make mistakes; he is long gone; but, the Congress turned liberal 4 years ago, and as I have noted, (2/14, 10:15am) things got decidedly worse in a hurry. How is Obama responsible? He has done absolutely NOTHING, in 13 months, to help. Name for me ONE thing. Easy enough? The "Stimulus" failed, AP said so. AND, with a supermajority (RIP) and a huge majority in the House, HOW can Republicans stop Obama from "fixing" us? They cannot; Obama & Dems have failed
- Posted By: What Now: I'm am wondering since cap and trade is dead and Obama just announced funding for a nuclear plant and pressing for more nuclear plants just how long it will be before the coal industry climbs into bed with the tree huggers they loathe so much to derail these plans.I think he should halt all funding for clean coal and use it for nuclear,no need to beat a dead horse and the coal industry has stated that clean coal does not and never will exist. So wouldn't it be wise to go in another direction rather than waste money studing something that does not exist,by the time we spend money trying to find better ways to use coal and the time spent fighting the permit process and the epa on coal lets just invest that money in nuclear. The one new plant they are proposing will provide electric to over 1/2million homes with 0 carbon emissions and guess what no need for cap and trade with 0 emissions its a win win,we have power and no emissions so the tree huggers are happy and the lights are still on
- Posted By: Happy Now???: Are you happy now since with all the arguing about global warming and the fight over carbon emissions has led to the starting of nuclear plant talks and no one could agree to do anything to save the coal industry that the end is near. With the coal fired plants needing replaced because of age and upgrades being so expensive they will not be replaced by new coal fired plants the future will be nuclear so just stick a fork in the coal industry its done,no sense in studying clean coal technology anymore but as many of you said all along clean coal was a myth so lets shift to nuclear and be done with it.Im glad it will end all the bickering about MTR.Wonder what big daddy Don thinks of the lastest news. And Keith Walt is right the first cap and trade was for sulfer emissions and that turned out just fine even though it had its naysayers too.Check the power companies they are for it and they are the ones using the coal that keeps WVa alive but now we may not need coal much longer GO Nuke
- Posted By: Jeannie: Reading Keith's posts is just like listening to Rush, Glenn, Hannity, and the rest. Keith is brainwashed with utter devotion to Republicanism. Heritage only has cred with the Far Right and Keith knows it. 60% of the public was against what the health care bill became - not what it was in the beginning. Public option is the only way to go. I've said it before - you can't require me to buy insurance without providing me with an affordable option. Anything less is a giveaway to health insurance co's. I have what Keith lacks - the ability to see beyond political speak - I am a Democrat, but I do not always accept their word as if spoken by God; however, it is very clear that Keith worships Republicans. How, without busting a gut, can you say that Obama is responsible for this horrible economy? Yes, Bush and Republicans did this to us. You can pretend like these words are just poking at our last leader - but they are the TRUTH. Repub's need to get out of the way & let Obama fix our country.
- Posted By: Gandalf: It is easy to understand why Keith is so confused. Heritage Foundation, World Net Daily, Fox News are all mouthpieces for the Republican National Committee. Their agenda is not for the advancement of America, but the advancement of Corporate Greed.

- Posted By: Well, no, actually we did not: You must pay attention, it is vital in the times we live in. Bush was not a conservative, I have listed many disagreements with him and will not do it again simply because Bush no longer matters, he is gone. Obama does. What would life be like with me? Probably a lot like Reagan, low taxes, a booming economy, a strong military, opportunity everywhere you look, respect, and much more importantly, fear, for the USA, strong military, security, etc...I understand why you liberals don't like that; after all, you stand for unemployment, government food lines, soup kitchens, groveling, apologizing, destroying your own country, falling for hoaxes, high inflation, high interest rates, Carter's misery index, etc...I do appreciate the prayers, but pray more for the country and the people who were duped with promises of "hope and change," who cannot find a job, etc...and it probably wouldn't hurt you to ask for wisdom and discernment. AND, OMG, if it is so irrelevant, why did you post? LOL!!
- Posted By: Keith...if Bush already signed Cap and Trade why is Obama doing it again?: There is no misunderstanding on my part. Go to Heritage Foundation, under Domestic Policy Issues, scroll down to Labor, then click on a summary of the Employee Free Choice Act. Heritage does their usual fine job of summarizing Bills. As for Obamacare, the "final version" is a moving target; the House bill was/is so atrocious, it contained at different times jail time for non-buyers; direct debit by the IRS of your bank account; forcing everyone to buy it, needed or not; allowing Obama to appoint a board to determine plans and "benefits;" it is easy to see, this is dictatorial and tyrannical, totally against the American spirit. IF this bill is so great, why did they have to use taxpayer money to bribe Senators from LA & NE to gain support; why does over 60% of the public reject it; why do Pelosi and Reed keep scheming on ways to secretly, backdoor the bill, i.e., "Reconciliation" if it is so good? Why was public scrutiny promised, but never allowed? CSPAN??? 3 day online review???

As for myself, I prefer normal occurring CO2 which I feel is not a threat, and trust God to care for all our needs as He has promised. But we get more nuclear plants with its radioactive gas potential disasters whether we want them or not. I just hope for all our sakes you are right.

1. Card Check would not strip union employees of their right to a secret ballot. It would strip EMPLOYERS of the right to demand a secret ballot re: whether the employees favor unionization. That's a misunderstanding on your part.
2. Under "Obama-care" (your words) you would NOT be jailed for failing to purchase health insurance. You'd be jailed for not paying the surchage tax levied on those who don't have any health insurance at all, under the existing Internal Revenue code. And in any case, the possibility of getting jail time for non-payment was dropped before the Senate Finance Committee voted on the bill. It's not in the final version.
3. "Cap-and-trade" as a concept was put forth about 40 years ago, it didn't just fall out of Obama's brain. And the first cap-and-trade legislation was signed into law in 1990 by then Republican President George H.W. Bush.

I think when the smoke clears we have an R House and an R Senate, mainly because the liberals like Pelosi and Reed cannot learn. I still hear of them trying to back door and sneak Obamacare through. Way to govern for the people...Facts, "What Happened in Nov. 2006?" I am citing Congress, not Bush to Obama; that is why I used 1/07 figures, when the liberals took over, vs. today, after 4 years of their pillaging. I will revisit the other point later today, it is just as striking and provides not much difference. As for subsidies, extensions, protecting illegal aliens, all these are liberal ideas, not conservative.

- Posted By: So what do we do?: I would much rather do nothing than wreck what we have, which is exactly what Obama seems intent upon doing. Of course we can do better, I would suggest reforming the lawsuit abuse for starters. Costs skyrocket, tests are performed to protect against litigation, etc...everytime you see a huge settlement doled out by a jury, or a tax placed on a provider, it always comes to you, these entities do not pay it, they pass it along. We pay for all this. Another good idea is allowing interstate competition among insurance companies; competition increases supply which decreases price. Another idea to pursue is getting more control over your own costs. You mention the two aspirins. If you had to pay for that yourself, would you do it quietly? I sure wouldn't. What did you say when you saw that bill? Do you even care, since there is a third party involved? Then we wonder why insurance costs so much? Partisanship is necessary; I do not want compromise with bad ideas, I want them defeated.
- Posted By: Keith...what did the insurance company say when you told them about the $83 aspirins?: Another huge govt. bureaucracy taking over 1/6 of the economy. They always overrun cost projections; they are always inefficient; I don't like the threat of jail if I don't buy it; I don't like not being able to choose my doctor, or the care I want. I don't like being forced to pay for everyone else and their bad choices; I don't pay my neighbors grocery or electric bill, why should I pay his doctor visit? Costs: one survey found up to 40% of health care professionals would leave the field if this passes; what happens when you have a decrease of providers, along with an increase in demand for care? Shortages. One solution to a shortage is rationing. I do not think highly trained and motivated professionals who have sacrificed years of hard work and study to become what they are, will sit still for a community agitator stepping in and telling them where they can practice, how much they can make, etc...that is a cost of this bill not often recognized or discussed.
- Posted By: Battle of the VPs: Don't you guys think Obama should show a little gratitude to GW Bush? I mean, Bush has given him a ready made excuse for his total failure on the economy; all Obama ever says is "blame Bush, he did it, we inherited it." How about Iraq? VP Biden said winning the Iraq war could be Obama's biggest accomplishment. Funny, there aren't many accomplishments to speak of, but wasn't it Sen. Biden, D-DE, who said Iraq should be divided into three regions? Didn't Biden and Obama oppose Sen. McCain's (R-AZ) troop surge, that swung the tide of the war? Didn't Sen. Harry Reid, D-NV, say publicly "This war is lost," while troops were fighting the war, lending psychological aid and comfort to our enemy? How does the Left feel, listening to their anti-war guy, as he boasts about winning a war "based on lies, half-truths, etc...blah blah...as Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-MA, said, "concocted in TX for political gain." A war is his biggest accomplishment? Nice to finally have Libs on board, for the troops sake.
- Posted By: Jim: Hey Keith I see where you are still going on about Obama care tell me exactly what part of the health care bill you do not like and why you think the current set up is so great.I just saw my insurance billed $83 for 2 aspirin's and wonder what could be any worse than that, can you honestly say that the system we have is good for the people and you think it is the best we can do or are you part of the group that would rather do nothing than to see something positive from the democratic party, either way when politics gets as screwed up as they are now the only people who suffers are the people the elected officals are to serve.I have never voted a straight ticket and have voted for as many republicans as democrats but when I see the game playing at the expense of the people it makes me lash out at the players and I'm not alone in these feelings so all the partisanship will come back to haunt the politicans of both parties at all levels
- Posted By: Keith...yeah, you tell 'em: They also said Medicare, when it was passed in 1965, would cost around 20-30 billion by 1990; today I believe it is over 400 billion. Not a good track record; point is, it is a crying shame that the electric bills and other services for older folks, poor people, working people, etc...the ones who can least afford it, have to rise over a total hoax. Sure climate change is real, it occurs naturally, and has occurred for thousands of years as the earth goes through different cycles. But to suggest, as members of the Church of Man Made Global Warming do, that the USA is the worst offender, most responsible, etc...the green movement is destroying our economy, putting people out of work, creating destitute families, children without proper clothes and food, harming us all. I heard the other day that Glenn Beck's show was now the #1 show in all of cable news, all categories, all channels. Congratulations Glenn, you and Bill O'Reilly beat all the others combined by 20X over-great work.

"Inflated Cost Claims: The GOP drastically overstated how much proposed cap-and-trade legislation would affect the average family’s energy costs — Republicans said costs would increase by $3,100 a year, more than twice the estimate of the conservative Heritage Foundation. On NBC’s "Meet the Press," House Minority Leader John Boehner cited a figure closer to the Heritage Foundation’s estimate — $1,700 per year — attributing it to the Treasury Department. But that number really came from a back-of-envelope calculation by a CBS News blogger. The Treasury Department has called the figure "flat-out wrong," and the Congressional Budget Office’s much lower estimate is $455 per year over the 2012-2050 period." FactCheck.org

- Posted By: Keith...thanks for asking Walt: I never mentioned "bills" but here goes. 1. Card Check-would abolish the secret ballot in union elections. This is one of Obama's pay back bills to his favorite special interest group, Big Union. Just as employees deserve to be free of management interference, they deserve the same concerning unions when voting. 2: "Healthcare" show me a worse freedom stealing, liberty destroying idea than this. Penalties such as being jailed if you don't buy Obamacare sounds more at home in North Korea or Cuba, certainly not in America. This bill is an abomination. 3: Cap and Trade. Based upon a hoax, liberals are determined to destroy our industry, jobs, and economic freedom by imposing onerous regulations, taxes, limits, etc...upon our entrepreneurs while nations like China and India have wised up and chosen real jobs over non-existent "green" jobs, producing inefficient products very few want short of Govt. mandate and force of law. All three of these are straight from Obama, Pelosi, and Reid.

The Dow Jones, in Jan. 2007, stood at 12,400. Today it is at 10,100. The Federal Deficit stood at 162 Billion in Jan. 2007, today it stands at 1.5 Trillion, which if you are counting, is around 15 times higher than Jan. 2007 levels, although I confess I am lost with such numbers. In January 2007, the federal debt was 8.7 Trillion, today it is 12.3 Trillion. What happened? What happened in November, 2006? Who took over the spending in January, 2007, and controls it to this day? I know all we hear from Obama and Biden is, "we inherited all this..." Well, 2 points: Bush no longer matters. All banks will be required to make these loans, at 0% interest, on penalty of A: takeover by the Bank Czar or, B: be closed down. The loans will total $3 Trillion, and be backed by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. All loans will be made electronically for 2 reasons: no new paper money will be printed, saving ink costs, and without paper money being printed, there will be no increase in money supply, thus inflation will be held in check. - Posted By: Bluebird: The sad truth is man is little more than an irritation on the surface of this earth. Put all of us in one spot and rise above the earth, we would be little more than a blemish. We can pollute the air and water around us, but if we disappeared in no time the earth would cleanse itself. The things that affect the ocean are nothing to do with us. The moon, sun and possibly planets and meteors even, affect it. But mostly it is our molten interior. Have you not noticed the increase in earthquakes? When those plates shift, which float on that molten core-that would affect the ocean temp. Of course the theory is our actions also cause that. It is just not so. These people are putting too much importance upon our existence in relation to the working of the universe. We are nothing in the big scope of things. Little more than a rash the earth has developed. But more than anything is man's increased technology that allows them to see things that were unknown before. And some gain wealth from it.
- Posted By: Keith: Well, Anonymous, that sure sounds like the theory of man made global warming to me; that is a perfect description of AlGore; there are millions of gullible folks around the world believing in M.M.G.W., on less evidence than Christians have; so what is the point of your post? You agree with me on everything. No, COT, but I am saying it is endlessly amusing to read the posts of the so-called atheists/agnostics on here, who mock and ridicule Christianity, but themselves have a religion with priests, sin, atonement, etc...there is corruption anywhere there is humanity, but, AlGore is perhaps the biggest huckster of them all. Imagine, a hoax, a movie filled with inaccuracies, force-fed to school age children; propped up by a lap dog media; lauded by socialists, communists, even Osama Bin Laden, & tax happy UN bureaucrats, and, he will even sell you carbon credit indulgences to assuage your guilt, at a profit to himself, of course; and, Rev. AlGore NEVER takes/answers questions. Why not?
- Posted By: : Kieth, rambling on a little more than usual aren't you?But as to question of religion or science that is very easy to answer, religion is a belief in mythological beings and stories of which there are no facts to back them up,just people telling you it is so for thier own personal gain,or sense of power and/or feeling of being better than another. While science is based on the facts which are studied and compiled to reach an understanding of an event or thing. While all religions mix enough truth(facts)with the myths to sell itself to as many persons as possible,it is still mainly false and flawed information with more harm than good for society, the best thing ever to happen for a society was the separation of church and state.Hopefully the more educated the world becomes the less religion will influence things and a better world and life be left to our descendants.

- Posted By: Keith...hey WSAZ I have a poll question: "Do you think the Man Made Global Warming Movement is a Religion, or Sceince?" Lets examine: Original Sin? In MMGW's case, humans breathing, exhaling Carbon Dioxide. Atonement? Driving pop can, plug in cars; eating veggie burgers, etc... Ever heard of indulgences? Same thing as Carbon Credits. Priesthood? Is there a group of leaders who may feel they are exempted from from laws and standards covering everyone else, self-important, who are afforded special status and privilege? Absolutely, look at AlGore and RKF Jr. One common charge directed at religions is, they are closed minded and dogmatic, not open to debate. Q: Who said that the MMGW issue was settled, that further debate was unnecessary? A: Rev. AlGore. Another charge leveled is profiteering off the supplicants. Q: Who gains financially from a company that sells indulg...er, I mean Carbon Credits? A: AlGore. Some charge that religious leaders won't answer questions; just "take my word for it." Sound familiar? Yep, Rev. AlGore.
- Posted By: Bluebird: If I might join this discussion without someone calling their mom on here to make me look like a cyber bully, I have to agree with Keith and like. Craveontruth, you made some excellent points, emissions do need cut-for our health. But earth is not warming any more than in times past. Data was doctored to make it look like it was by the power elite who control the world. We have always had periods of unexplainable weather. Who can explain the Dust Bowl of the 30's? I remember times growing up that the temps were in the 100's in summer. And we had huge snowfalls. But not every year of each. Now that the facts are coming out, and most countries are realizing they have been had, our "good" country has decided to make their own studies. I guarantee it will make it look like the earth is warming. It is too good of a crisis to throw away. Storms have always been caused by evaporating water and directed where the air flow and ocean currents guide it. It was a perfect design by a Perfect Maker.
- Posted By: Questions, and those irksome facts...: Who said, here on the Yell, last year, that Swine Flu, or was it Bird Flu, I have forgotten now, was going to shut down the entire country and make it unsafe to leave your homes? Also, who, in the course of conversation, sent emails to one another describing how data had been manipulated, lies had been told, truth had been stretched, on man made global warming? Was it Rush and Sean, or the global warming "scientists?" A: MMGW "scientists." True or false: for thousands of years, the earth has been going through natural cycles of warming and cooling. A: True. Before industry, before the modern economy, yes, the earth cooled and warmed, naturally. The warmest year on record in the last 100 years was in the 1930s, since the 1990s the trend has been cooling. In fact, Time magazine, in the late 1970s, published a story about the coming global ice age. I also heard the UN took the word of ONE STUDENT who wrote a paper on MMGW, ran with it, proclaimed it, when it was totally false. Wow.
- Posted By: Keith...man made global warming is a hoax: The USA is one of the few countries in the world that has a % of its population willing to commit national suicide for a man made hoax. Developing nations, the ones that wish to create and maintain thriving, growing economies that provide good jobs and actually build things scoff at this nonsense. More drought means the world is getting more wet; more water means the world is getting drier; more snow means we are getting warmer; alarmists in the Church of M.M.G.W. proclaim every hurricane, tornado, flood, to be part of the giant catastrophe. Then, when the fraud is revealed on a grand scale, (England) oops, lets call it climate change, only, let it be for thee and not for me, thus say the Apostles of the Church, like Brother AlGore and RFK Jr., as they fly all over the world in their luxury private jets, drive huge SUVs, live in mansions, and fight windmill installation in their neighborhood, because it will block their view of the bay. What kind of deluded people fall for this stuff?
- Posted By: haha: Roger are you kidding me? Seriously? I think perhaps you should go to science class again... Or even history for that matter. Look over the last several years, there are years that are wetter, dryer, colder, warmer, the whole sha-bang! Growing up somewhere where it actually snowed anyway, this winter is really no different. Of course in southwestern wv people freak out over an inch of snow, yet there truly hasn't been "that" much snow. Global Warming by your theory means that every single year we will have deeper snows and wetter forecasts. In fact, next year we probably will face another drought. All of this is mother nature's way of fixing the problems. (one year not enough rain, next year plenty) Its not a conspiracy but instead the Natural Process. Just think, millions of years ago the world was ice, then it gradually warmed! Its going to do it without us.
- Posted By: Roger: Quite frankly, the current weather supports global warming. More moisture in the air from the evaporating oceans = more snow.
Several places on the east coast have broken records this year for snowfall.

- Posted By: miner49er: It seems as if some of you are believing the oil/coal propaganda.
ExxonMobil Corp., the world's largest publicly traded oil company, has given hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past several years to groups that repeatedly attack climate-change scientists.
In 2008, the company reported giving $100,000 to the Washington, D.C.-based Atlas Economic Research Foundation, which co-sponsored a conference in New York that March titled "Global Warming: Was It Ever Really a Crisis?"
That conference was sponsored by the Chicago-based Heartland Institute, which has also received money from ExxonMobil. Atlas has supported more than 30 other self-proclaimed think-tanks that espouse climate-change skepticism.
The London-based International Policy Network, which has also launched repeated attacks against climate-change scientists, including researchers of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, has likewise received money from ExxonMobil.
ExxonMobil has plenty of money to run propaganda and buy Congressmen, Americans will always buy their gas to run to 7-11 for a pack of cigarettes
- Posted By: Craveontruth: Buck, your comment on global warming not existing is most alarming to me.You see the debate is not over wether the earth's waters are getting warmer or not,it is wether man is causing it or it is a natural occurrence. All you have to do is take a temperture and you can find out the earth is warmer today than it was last year.So for you to say global warming does not exist I find to be inaccurate. Are you saying it is a natural occurrence?
- Posted By: Austin:To Miner49er: Sorry Miner if I dont meet your high intellect, although I do have have the "tools" to spell anyalyze, and bottom correctly, anyway I do understand that higher temps can and do cause more energy in the system resulting in more extreme weather. My point is that the earth has been doing this since its begining, long before electric power plants and gasoline powered cars. Even before mankind was at the large population it is now. How is it that these changes that according to those highly educated scientist have been happening for millions of years are suddenly mankinds fault? Did they not begin before we crawled out of the ooze? Not that I believe that but it is always amusing how people like you cannot prove your theories so you just degrade anyone who disagrees. If the theories about climate change, global warming or whatever the catch phrase is this week are so rock solid why do they have to manipulate the data? You know like a catfish here on the good ole Big Coal River. In the summer, you fish shallow, as it gets colder you fsih deep. Ah, heck who am I kidding, you people are led to belive the Coal River does not have fish life. Maybe I can get my co-worker Earl to explain it better. Big Earl, can you help the ol' grease monkey? - Posted By: miner49er: Austin, you're oversimplifying a complex system. You don't seem to have the tools to logically analyse the data.
To think that Global Warming will just raise the ambient temp a few degrees with no ill effects is to ignore the complex weather dynamic.
The bottam line is increased temps mean increased energy in the system mean more extreme storms and weather events.
Yes, record highs and lows as the total energy in the system goes up.
So, intelligent design? How does that theory go?

- Posted By: Austin:to miner49er: So lets get this straight, record highs=proof of global warming.Record lows=proof of global warming.Huricanes=global warming. Record snowfalls=global warming. Global warming scientist manipulate data=change global warming to "climate change". Who's ignoring the facts? No according to all of the scientist who say I am a fool for believing in Inteligent Design say the earth has gone from ice age to tropical climate over and over again say I am foolish for not believing in man made climate change. Now can someone get the story straight, did the dinasouars flagelance cause the last round of climate change or is it just a naturual occurence. I dont mean to ignore the facts but since the "facts" keep changing to suit what they want to say, its kind of hard not too. So when all of the "experts" like Al Gore decide to stop running around in their SUV's and living in energy sucking mansions, paid for by carbon credits, make up their mind maybe we will discuss it.

See, us common folks are too stupid to look out the window, see 3 feet of snow along with 10 degree temperatures, record snowfall in Philly, DC, etc...and not realize its because everything is getting warmer. We need to put more than a coal miner on a milk jug, how about Robert Kennedy Jr. and AlGore. Anybody seen them? First the university over in England is caught red-handed in their scam; next we find out some yahoo writes a paper about all the rain forests vanishing, the UN buys it hook, line, and sinker, when it is a total crock. Man made global warming is a hoax; if it were real, the two main milk-jug apostles of the Church would be pedaling around on bikes instead of flying in private jets. Yeah, I understand now...we drive soda pop can cars, they live in 50 room mansions. Hey Gandalf maybe it was on the Courage the Cowardly Dog show that Eustis guy is pretty radical.
- Posted By: miner49er: Yes, the record snowfalls ARE evidence of Global Climate Change.
As the Earth's oceans are heated, more water vapor enters the atmosphere. This leads to increased precipitation as rain when it's warm and snow when it's cold.
Also, higher ocean temps will cause more atmosphereic disturbances in general, such as high winds and "freak" storms.
Those who deny the reality of Climate Change are ignoring the facts.

Is there any progress getting shelters built or tents for people? The rainy season is coming - what is being done to prepare? Why isn't there a network Anchor person in Haiti giving daily updates? Somebody give me a comment - Do you feel we are really getting the news coverage that this deserves? The media did the same thing with the New Orleans disaster - once the water drained out, it was old news. Just how safe from flooding again is New Orleans? Any imput will be appreciated.
- Posted By: Bluebird: I am in agreement with you about the commercials. I have not seen the commercials but they are apparently jumping ahead with "educating" the younger kids as is being discussed in the news lately. The only thing parents can do is what you are doing-protest. I will join you. If enough of us do, perhaps we can change things, but I doubt it. It is the end times we live in, sadly, where Christians are the enemy. But He told us we would be. Good luck. Don't let them drown out your voice.

- Posted By: To Arts patron: Nine times out of ten, when a show doesn't start at the scheduled time, it's because they're holding the performance to allow time for everyone to be seated. This is especially true in cases where there are a lot of children in the audience or it's a large crowd. Charleston is a bit notorious for having a lot of late-arriving patrons who come to the theatre at the last minute, but it happens everywhere. I've never known of a show being held because the performers weren't ready, though of course there could always be something unexpected that delays a performance.
- Posted By: mom of three boys: I do not live nor do I qualify for any government assistance. I wouldn't have voted for Obama if someone offered me all the money in the world. I simply asked why a commercial promoting condoms was aired during cartoons. I believe in God and do my best to raise my children by his word. I will not hide them from reality but condoms on cartoons---wow. I don't have all night for an argument about our pathetic government or the anti-christian views of our government. I believe in God and I believe educating on sex should be when a child is a little closer to being a teenager. I never thought that I would explain to a 4, 5, or 8 year old what a condom was. I will be sending a letter to the network because I believe that action speaks louder than words. That is exactly what is wrong with this nation! Too many people whine and wait on a hand out instead of getting up and doing something about it!
- Posted By: Keith....ask me, please: I will define Marxism for you. Example: "Share/spread the wealth." Translated: Take from folks who work hard to earn their own money, pay their own bills, take care of their families, i.e., they don't expect their neighbor to pay their bills, don't sponge off people who do work, soak their neighbors, lob up on the public dole, etc.. just the opposite of what made the country great. Many presidents did have Czars, but I challenge you, show me a more motley collection of America-hating, radical, evil, Marxist, Maoist, malcontents than Obama has assembled; you cannot. Socialism/Communism is a horror; just look at anywhere it is tried. Paradises on earth, like Cuba, where comrade Fidel will help you buy a brand new 1959 Chevy; North Korea, where TV and radio is controlled by the state; China, with forced abortion policies, this is socialism. Way to go Food for thought. Speaking of, is that GMO stuff sold at Krogers COT? I have never noticed it on the labels on the back of the box.
- Posted By: To Mom of 3 Boys:: Gee, I sure hope you aren't one of the many hypocrites I see that bash "socialist" programs yet take advantage of them yourself. If you ever got help such as medical card during pregnancy, WIC for your boys, or took them to the public library- guess what? You have used SOCIALIST programs! The horror! I love that people throw the word "Marxist" around but then have no clue how to define what that means when asked.
Get a clue. Get a grip. Many presidents had czars, including GW.

- Posted By: cheryl: Well the headline says let off some steam so here I am.I have a question for all hardworking law abiding citizens of the tri state. Why is that criminals have more rights than victims. On 1/11/10 I was gone for the evening and my 16 yr. old daughter allowed 2 19 yr. old boys into the house although she knew that it was against the rules to have anyone over well when the boys left so did alot of expensive electronics after lots of questioning from the police she finally admitted to having these boys over. Well a few days later these same 2 boys were accused of being at another home where there was also several electronic items missing when they left. The police question these boys and they claim to know nothing and because nothing turns up at the pawn shops they cant prosecute. Well if these boys were the only 2 ppl in 2 seperate homes on 2 seperate days how is it possible that nothing can be done. That just goes to show (in my opinion) that crime does pay.

This is not 1864, or 1898, 1906, etc... Tragic about the 994 Muslims killed in 1906. How about lets weigh that against the ones we helped in the Bosnian War in the '90s, Gulf War 1, Kuwait, the 50 million or so freed in 2003. Q: Were the Philippines better off being an American protectorate in 1944, or could Spain have saved them? Enough said. Haiti and Lebanon would have been much better off today had our Marines stayed, God bless them for the wonderful work they do. Anywhere the USA goes, freedom and opportunity follow; Germany, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, etc...as for assassins, depends on who they are planting. There are a lot of folks in this world who need a CIA assassin, i.e., thugs, tyrants, dictators, who murder, enslave, pillage, rape, etc...

The jobs offered usually were by us not their own. We have oil, gas, and coal so lets use it. Also I did not say stop trade/selling. I said bring our troops home, secure our borders, and trade/sell on our terms not theirs. If we used our reserves against theirs then we have a bargaining chip. Even more so we have the refineries thats make the fuel they don't, another bargaining chip. Keep our way of life Christianity an not even consider another, Islam.

What about US trained death-squads in Honduras, killing priests?
How about those CIA assassins in Iran, Chile, etc?
You said "They still blasted our towers, we went back again to defend."

- Posted By: Keith...it was my better half...: I forgot to thank you Gulf War vets too, from Rounds 1 and 2. I read somewhere that you folks freed over 50 million people in three Muslim countries, wow, what an accomplishment! Women and children included, gave them a chance for a decent life, free elections, self government and determination, prosperity; not bad for a bunch of oppressive, oil stealing, baby killing, village raiding, raping, pillaging, corporate toadies who break down doors in the middle of the night and terrorize innocent civilians-right Miner? And while I am at it, I recently finished a book "Nothing to Envy" about daily life in Noble Leader's paradise on earth, North Korea. So thanks to you Korean War vets too, you are often overlooked with the "Forgotten War" tagline but just think, an entire country and generations of people owe you everything; they may not realize it, but that doesn't diminish heroism, sacrifice, devotion, courage, all the qualities I want my children to have you vets have exhibited.

I am his number one supporter as he is mine. I am very blessed. You can choose to be mean if you like, but if you notice Keith and I will not turn nasty to retaliate against people on here. - Posted By: Jim: Question for all are you happy with the health care system the US has and the prices you are charged for services.I have a 90/10 plan where I work with a $300 annual deductible and a $20 co-pay for office visits which is a pretty good deal.Last year they added a well care benefit which covers yearly physicals, pap smears, mammograms and prostrate exams. Here is the part that I can not understand last year without the well care benefit my insurance was billed $614 which they paid for my wifes pap smear and mammogram this year the same procedure was only billed at $148 because it is all they would allow so where did the other $466 go last year.It really doesn't matter to me because I didnt have to pay but the idea that my children do not have insurance really bugs me thinking that the amount that gets wasted and over charged could be used to cover people that are not covered and can not get treatment that is needed without money up front that they may not have.Let me know what you think

- Posted By: Keith...welcome home Vietnam Veterans...: Thank you Veitnam Vets, God's special blessing to you all. I believe history has shown us you were right; your sacrifices rank with any American soldiers in any war. Lets look at fact: After we left SE Asia, under incredible pressure from the Treasonous political Left in the USA, i.e., the Jane Fondas, the media, SDS, the hippie Bill Ayers types, etc...only God knows how many were murdered by the Communists from Hanoi. The entire region went into slavery and poverty. When confronted with the choice of living in an Uncle Ho-inspired paradise or boarding a rickety boat and heading to sea, thousands went to sea, and many tragically died. Who knows what kind of a prosperous, free, thriving society Vietnam might be today, if the Left had supported the US soldier instead of spitting on them; perhaps the equal of S. Korea, or Japan, or Germany. Hats off to you WW2 vets too, for freeing the Philippines from imperial Japan. Every free breath we breathe we owe to US service personnel; GBU; GBA.
- Posted By: To Buck: Are you for real do you know how long we would stand with out trade to other countries possibly 6 to 18 months and we would be out of oil and the price of a gallon of gas would be would be at least a weeks pay for many, but without exporting who would have a job the rich would take over and the middle class and poor would be doomed in less than 3 months and total chaos would set in.Have you ever been to a 3rd world country if not maybe you should visit one and see if you would like living like that because without the rest of the world that is exactly what the US would be
- Posted By: Keith...hey Buck, Bob, excellent posts; Miner, you need to read things closely...: Business diversity training in the U.S. must have been thought up in one of Paul Pot's re-education camps. The Leftist proponents, in both instances, have a shared ideology, i.e., oppression, PC, speech codes, censorship, tyranny. Everything in the world is tolerated, except Christianity/Conservatism. It is the same in politics; the PC Left can say anything, no matter how hurtful, vulgar, rude, a la Harry Reid, Rahm Emmanuel, Bill Clinton, and not a word from the PC apparatchiks. Free and open debate found on conservative talk radio & Fox News, makes the Left froth at the mouth. Buck is, I believe, referring to the battle of ideas, not bullets, in the contest between Islam and Christianity. True, we cannot go to most Muslim nations and freely preach the gospel of Christ, but, they are allowed to come here freely and build mosques and spread their beliefs at will.

Furthermore I said we need to bring the troops back home, lock up our borders, trade/buy on our terms, leave them alone. If we are stealing the oil then why do they get gas and diesel back from us. So what is your beef and why the name calling. Everyone you mentioned asked for our help in one way or another. So how am I an idiot.

It's a war of lies, it's all about stealng Iraq's oil, using US soldiers as a corporate army.
Just like we have in the Philippines, Lebanon, Vietnam, Haiti, Panama, etc.

Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the Diversification training seminar were not happy with my way of dealing with the Islamic Imam, and exposing the truth about the Muslims' beliefs. In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. to elect the President!

I then stated, 'Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr. Stanley ordering all protestants to do the same in order to guarantee them a place in heaven!' The Imam was speechless! I continued, 'I also have a problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me! Let me ask you a question:
Would you rather have your Allah, who tells you to kill me in order for you to go to heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to heaven and He wants you to be there with me?'
- Posted By: bob: 2. 'Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world and, that by killing an infidel, (which is a command to all Muslims) they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?' There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation, he replied, 'Non-believers!' I responded, 'So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can have a place in heaven. Is that correct?' The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.'

If you have a pulse you have a purpose. The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in the United States, especially in the minority races!!! Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs. I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video. After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers. When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked:

- Posted By: jam6972: Keith, my friend, you are right about George W. Bush, I must have misunderestimated him ! And,...I did not vote for him, but I also did not cut him down at every opportunity, he was OUR president, and I supported him.
- Posted By: Bluebird: Craveontruth, there are several stories on BBC about GM food. I am still studying that somewhat strange idea.
- Posted By: Nashman: Buck: I'm with you! Get our soldiers home, secure our borders, trade only with those who will trade on our terms & get back to minding our own business. I wrote the same thing on The Yell a few weeks ago and they never did post it.
- Posted By: Bluebird: Yes! This is what we need! There is plenty we can do until November. Get ideas and be prepared. Discuss the important issues. No matter which side you are on, you can help others by showing what things need fixed and give your reasons so others can see why you feel that way and can make informed decisions. I am fairly new to the political discussion. I depend on hearing what others have to say. Then I can decide if it makes sense. Many of us are like that. Share what you learn with others so when we can do something we are prepared. If everyone thought alike, there would be only one party. There are never wrong ideas, just differing. Discuss, discuss. All good posts today! Thanks to all.

- Posted By: buck: What does it take to define a leader? Washington seems to think money and degrees from Ivy League schools. We have so many people out there who have the ability to lead so very well but with no money or connections they will NEVER get a chance. There is so much division and no loyalty within our own boundaries. Americans are hurting because we aren't coming together as Americans. So many people want to come here and then institute their way of life and we have let them. So much so that it is killing us. We as Americans do not go to other countries and insert our way of life. If we did we would be shot, killed, or jailed. Why doesn't that happen here. Last I checked we are America not ameristan, ameripan, americhina, ameriatina, ameriarussia, ameriaeast etc. Bring our troops home, shut down our borders, arm our borders, and mind our own business. We buy, sell, trade on our terms or not at all. That is all.

Our little family is having a blast in our new home! We love Branson. The people are so friendly, the entertainment is wonderful, the schools are the best in the midwest and my husband loves his job. We have had several visitors already and look forward to many, many more.
